OmerChallenge: Day 42
Today is forty-two days which are six weeks in the Omer.
Hayom shnayim v-arba’im yom shehaym shishah shavuot la-omer.
Something you enjoy
Hmm… so many things. Shabbat, warm challah, the first blast of horseradish on Passover, the first taste of bread after Passover, the feeling of being transported during a moment of prayer (which comes more often than I expected but it’s not constant. You have to want it, and work for it, and you appreciate it each time it happens.).
One of the things I didn’t expect to like as much as I have is becoming shomer Shabbat. Which is very very recent. I predicted (to myself. I didn’t want to throw off the enthusiasm of my family) that I would certainly tolerate the weekly 25 hour shutdown, but that it would be a constant nagging ache – the urge to grab my cellphone or run over to my computer.
Nope. I practically leap off the grid each week, and really enjoy the mental quiet. Living in our new (predominantly observant) neighborhood, there’s a whole host of things to keep my family and I occupied.
I’m willing to admit that, as the novelty wears off and the days grow longer this summer, I might change my tune. But I don’t plan on changing my behavior.
